I created this for a co-workers card! I first started by studying Polynesian design and symbols, especially tattoo designs. I found that the sun, sea life, and birds were a common reoccurring theme. I tried to pick symbols that meant leadership, new beginnings, and courage. I then chose fonts that I thought would look good with the design that was in my head. I printed those out and then sketched out the rest of the design by hand. I transferred the sketch onto the final watercolor paper and then did the inking process! This was my first time creating something in this style and I for sure would love to try something like it again soon!
